Canary Islands

4th to 13th May 2026 (Sold Out)

During this varied workshop we will be photographing on three of the Canary Islands - Tenerife, La Palma and La Gomera. Our main aim will be to capture some stunning landscape and coastal images, but there will also be time for a bit of macro photography of the local flora and fauna. Expect volcanic landscapes, misty forests, dramatic rocky coastline, traditional villages and harbours. The Canary Islands are famed for their dark skies, so we intend to also capture some wide-field astro-landscapes if the weather allows. Weather permitting we will start photographing each day before sunrise and finish after sunset. Image critique sessions will be carried out as required and when time permits.

With only five fellow photographers you will be free to explore each location as much as you wish and you will all be assured the chance to make the most of each location. Please bear in mind that this will be a particularly intensive photography workshop where we will try to fit in as much as possible. We may also have to spend time waiting for good light. There will be at least eight full days of actual photography time, with a good chance of a sunset shoot on our arrival day and a sunrise shoot on our departure day (flight times permitting).

Itinerary (Subject to change due to weather conditions):

Day 1 Arrival on Tenerife
Transfer to the hotel. If flight times allow we will have an evening photo session on the slopes of Teide volcano.

Day 2 & 3 Full days on Tenerife
We will have early morning and late afternoon sessions with a break in the middle of the day. We will spend time photographing in the mountains (often at an altitude of 2500m), where the volcanic landscape is the highlight. Swirling clouds coming in from the ocean can create interesting effects, especially when using long exposures.  We will also spend time on coastal landscapes on the shoreline, where there are spectacular rock formations. During the day there will be the option to visit several ancient Spanish towns and an area with abundant cactus and succulents.

Day 4 Transfer by ferry to La Palma (2.5 hours)
We will arrive in the capital, which is a small old town with interesting architecture. Check in, lunch and then photography around the island until sunset

Day 5 & 6 Full day on La Palma
We will photograph the giant caldera (one of the largest craters in the world) and a spectacular pine forest growing in the lava. Several places are good for coastal landscapes, with black sand in the foreground. La Palma also has biggest European observatory, meaning it is particularly good for night photography!

Day 7 Transfer by ferry to La Gomera (1.5 hours)
This island is noted for the contrast between cloudy forested mountain slopes to the north and dry sunny slopes to the south. There are also deep canyons and interesting coastal landscapes. As on the other islands, night photography can be very productive.

Day 8 & 9 Full days on La Gomera
Two full days photographing the incredible landscape of La Gomera. Possible late transfer to Tenerife on day 9 if our return flight is before 12pm.

Day 10 Departure Day
Catch early morning ferry to Tenerife (1 hour) if our departure flight is after 12pm.
